Summary: Volunteer medical assistants and EMTs participate within the health care team to provide efficient and quality primary health care
Supervisor: Clinic Director
Requirements:
- Current Connecticut EMT license or certificate of completion of MA program
- At least 21 years old
- Complete application process and orientation
- Ability to work with diverse populations and age groups
- A passion to help the underserved
- Ability to work as an effective member of a dedicated team of volunteers and staff
- Sensitivity and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality
- Sound understanding of and commitment to AFC mission and philosophy
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Clinic Director and nursing staff as needed
- Intake including height/ weight, vital signs and health history
- Prepare patient for provider exam
- Perform point of care testing such as urine dipsticks, quick strep tests, finger stick glucose and hemoglobin (as trained/signed off on)
- Assist the primary care provider with procedures as needed
- Provide patient instruction and educational materials under guidance of nursing staff
- Discuss concerns regarding patient with clinic director and provide community referrals as appropriate
- Ensure complete and proper documentation of all patient care and instruction in patient medical record; notes must be cosigned by RN
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Follow universal precautions, infection control principles and general clinic polices
