Summary:  The volunteer will work under the direction of the nursing staff and will be responsible for drawing blood and/or obtaining an EKG.

Supervisor:  Clinic Director


  • Certification as a Phlebotomist and/or EKG Technician
  • At least 21 years old
  • Complete application process and orientation
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and age groups
  • A passion to help the underserved
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a dedicated team of volunteers and staff
  • Sensitivity and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Sound understanding of and commitment to AFC mission and philosophy


  1. Assist the Clinic Director as needed
  2. Using proper technique, volunteer will draw blood from patient, label tubes and properly dispose of blood drawing equipment
  3. Demonstrate proper use of EKG machine, 12 lead placement and recording of EKG
  4. Verify identity of patient and ensure patient’s comfort and privacy throughout procedures
  5. Perform other diagnostic tests as trained and supervised
  6. All notes written by Phleb./EKG Technicians need to be co-signed by an RN or APRN
  7. Follow universal precautions, infection control principles and general clinic policies
  8. Maintain patient confidentiality
  9. Assist with other tasks as needed
