Summary: The volunteer nursing staff will work with the attending primary care provider and clinic team to see patients efficiently, effectively and to provide nursing care, patient education and ensure safe delivery of treatments and medication.

Requirements:

  • Current Connecticut registered nurse license
  • At least 21 years old
  • Complete application process including orientation
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and age groups
  • A passion to help the underserved
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a dedicated team of volunteers and staff
  • Sensitivity and a clear understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Sound understanding of and commitment to AFC mission and philosophy

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Clinic Director as needed
  2. Intake including height/weight, vital signs, patient history and medication reconciliation
  3. Prepare patients for provider exam
  4. Perform point of care testing and other procedures such as EKG as trained
  5. Dispense medications and administer injections as prescribed by the primary care provider
  6. Assist the primary care provider with procedures as needed
  7. Provide patient instruction, educational materials and community referral resources
  8. Discuss concerns regarding patient with clinic director
  9. Ensure complete and proper documentation of all patient care and instruction in patient medical records
  10. Maintain patient confidentiality
  11. Follow universal precautions, infection control principles and general clinic policies
